A quest for victory over addiction
When Jake joined WellSense, he was facing a difficult road. For years, he struggled with alcohol addiction—drinking up to two liters of vodka a day. But Jake had a goal: to get sober for himself and for his fiancée, Rachel. He was ready to make a change, and he was open to support.
From the start, the WellSense Care Management team stood by Jake’s side. His Care Manager helped him find the right treatment program and supported him through every step of the process. That included working with Jake to get into a medical detox facility and preparing him for the physical and emotional challenges ahead.
During treatment, Jake’s health took a turn. He was rushed to the intensive care unit, where he faced a serious medical crisis. That moment became a wake-up call. Jake realized just how close he had come to losing his life—and how much more he wanted to live it fully.
From that point on, Jake committed to his recovery with a new sense of purpose. His WellSense team helped him stay connected to the care and community resources he needed: addiction specialists, mental health providers, and peer support groups. They also helped him return to work as a chef—something he had always loved—and encouraged him to rebuild the life he envisioned with Rachel.
Today, Jake and Rachel are happily married. He’s found peace and belonging through his church, and he’s paying it forward by supporting others who are just starting their own recovery journeys.
Jake credits WellSense with helping him get here—but we know the truth: Jake’s determination, resilience, and heart are what brought him through.
His story reminds us that recovery is possible—and that no one should have to face it alone.
