About Us

WellSense Health Plan is a nonprofit health insurance company serving more than 740,000 members across Massachusetts and New Hampshire through Medicare, Individual and Family, and Medicaid plans. Founded in 1997, WellSense provides high-quality health plans and services that work for our members, no matter their circumstances.

Who We Serve

In Massachusetts:

  • MassHealth (Medicaid)
MassHealth is Massachusetts's Medicaid program, providing coverage for qualifying individuals and families of low-income and people with disabilities. WellSense offers Medicaid coverage both as a managed care organization, featuring a state-wide network of providers, and through multiple accountable care organizations (ACOs). Through these ACOs WellSense partners with regional provider networks to meet the healthcare needs of its members within a single healthcare system. (read more)

  • Qualified Health Plans (QHPs)
Our QHPs provide coverage for individuals and families who independently obtain insurance on the Massachusetts Health Connector (also known as the state exchange or healthcare marketplace). Some members may qualify for subsidies that can reduce their out-of-pocket costs for purchasing health insurance. Our QHPs include plans offered through Massachusetts’s ConnectorCare program.

  • Senior Care Options (SCO)
The Massachusetts SCO program provides coverage to individuals who are aged 65 and older and also qualify for MassHealth Standard. Through our SCO plan, WellSense offers our members extra benefits on top of their normal health insurance, such as funds to buy groceries and prescription eyewear and membership to the SilverSneakers® program. WellSense offers SCO plans to eligible Massachusetts residents living in five Massachusetts counties: Barnstable, Bristol, Hampden, Plymouth and Suffolk.

In New Hampshire:

  • Medicaid
WellSense provides coverage for qualifying individuals and families of low-income and people with disabilities through New Hampshire’s Medicaid program. Our Medicaid members receive valuable extras, such as incentive payments for completing health assessments and pediatric well visits as well as infant and toddler car seats at no cost to the member.

  • Medicare Advantage
WellSense provides three Medicare Advantage plan options to qualifying New Hampshire individuals who are aged 65 and older, have certain disabilities or are in end-stage renal disease. These plans offer valuable benefits beyond basic health insurance, including up to $600 a year for common drugstore purchases, comprehensive dental coverage and membership to the SilverSneakers® fitness program. Qualifying members may also be able to enroll in a $0 premium plan, allowing them to get Medicare Advantage coverage at no out-of-pocket cost.
