Important preventive care

Stay on the recommended schedule for well-child visits with your child’s primary care provider (PCP). Well-child visits are important checkups that even healthy children need to track their growth and health. Here are some things your child’s PCP might do at a well-child visit:

  • Give important vaccinations to help prevent disease or sickness.
  • Do a blood test for lead.
  • Measure height, weight, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).
  • Check hearing and/or vision.
Tips to support your child’s well-being at home
  • Encourage healthy eating habits early. Lead by example by eating healthy foods yourself.
  • Promote regular physical activity and playtime. Engage in exercise and play with your children.
  • Maintain healthy sleep habits. Children need more sleep than adults do, especially younger children.
