Keep your children healthy with their WellSense coverage
Keeping a child healthy is one the most important jobs a parent or guardian has. Here at WellSense,
we want to help every family keep their children on the path to healthy. Follow the tips below to make
sure your child gets the care and developmental support they need.

Important preventive care
Stay on the recommended schedule for well-child visits with your child’s primary care provider (PCP). Well-child visits are important checkups that even healthy children need to track their growth and health. Here are some things your child’s PCP might do at a well-child visit:
- Give important vaccinations to help prevent disease or sickness.
- Do a blood test for lead.
- Measure height, weight, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).
- Check hearing and/or vision.
Tips to support your child’s well-being at home
- Encourage healthy eating habits early. Lead by example by eating healthy foods yourself.
- Promote regular physical activity and playtime. Engage in exercise and play with your children.
- Maintain healthy sleep habits. Children need more sleep than adults do, especially younger children.
Learn healthy eating at home with BMC’s Teaching Kitchen
Boston Medical Center’s Teaching Kitchen offers WellSense members the opportunity to join exclusive cooking classes each month. Classes are held virtually and cover a variety of cuisines. Attendance is limited and registration is required.
The Teaching Kitchen also offers an online recipe library. You can sort the library by dietary restrictions, your health needs, ingredients and more. Sign up for a class, browse recipes or learn more here.
