Your Child's Health: Schedule a Checkup This Year
All members under age 21 should visit their doctor for a checkup every year, even if they are feeling healthy. At well-child checkups, the doctor can find and treat small problems before they become big ones. Well-child checkups are always free for Well Sense members.
Generally, the doctor will check weight, height, eyes, ears, blood pressure, and dental care at each appointment. The doctor may also complete social, developmental and behavioral health screenings. Developmental and behavioral health screenings can help you and the doctor identify any concerns early. You can ask the doctor which tool he or she will use to screen for behavioral health concerns.
Here are the ages to take a child for a checkup:
- 1 - 2 weeks old
- 1 month old
- 2 months old
- 4 months old
- 6 months old
- 9 months old
- 12 months old
- 15 months old
- 18 months old
- Every year between age 2 years - 20 years
Children should also go to the doctor anytime there is a concern about medical, developmental, or behavioral health needs, even if it isn’t time for a regular checkup.
