Breast Cancer Awareness
The sooner you identify breast cancer and get the care you need, the better your chances are of a successful treatment. That is why it is so important to perform monthly self exams and get regular mammograms.
Women who regularly examine their breasts know how their breasts normally feel, and are better able to spot inconsistencies. Set a monthly calendar reminder and follow these instructions when performing a monthly breast self-exam.
A mammogram is an x-ray of your breast. This special test can show signs of breast cancer early enough so you can get the medical care you need. Factors such as age, family history, weight, and previous cancer diagnoses can impact breast cancer risk factors, so it is important to speak with your doctor to find out how often you should receive a mammogram.
- If you are 40-49 years old, talk to your doctor about whether you should have a mammogram every year.
- If you are 50 years or older, you should have a mammogram every year. If you haven’t had a mammogram in the past year, call your doctor today and schedule your mammogram.
WellSense covers yearly mammograms for all members. If you need help making an appointment, please call Member Services.
